Coca Cola Bottling Company of Roanoke has donated twelve rain barrels to the Town of Blacksburg as part of a week-long environmental celebration called Sustainability Week. Over the next three weeks, local artists and schools will paint the barrels for a silent auction, culminating on October 25, 2008.
The rain barrel project is being organized by the Town of Blacksburg, Breakell Incorporated and Spectrum Design, contractor and architect for the Blacksburg Motor Company renovation, and Sustainable Blacksburg, a non-profit community organization facilitating effective environmental stewardship in the Blacksburg area. Half of the proceeds from the rain barrel auction will go to the artist or local school and the remaining 50% to Sustainable Blacksburg.
The barrels will be on display in the Blacksburg Municipal Building lobby at 300 South Main Street, during the latter half of Sustainability Week, October 22-25. Prospective bidders can stop by to view the barrels and place a bid at the cashier’s window on the second floor. Winning bids will be announced at 2:15pm on Saturday, October 25 following sneak preview green building tours of the Blacksburg Motor Company building from 11am – 2pm.
For more information about the silent auction call Meredith Jones at 540-250-6613 or email jonesmt@comcast.net.
