What: Sustainability Week Tree Planting. We will be planting approximately 50 native hardwood trees on the site. The trees are in small containers.
When: Thursday, October 15, 1 p.m.
Where: Corner of Kent Street and Washington Street behind Miles Hall.
Significance of this event: This planting supports the Virginia Tech Climate Action Commitment and Sustainability Plan and its goals for tree planting and reforestation, supports carbon sequestration, improves stormwater infiltration, reduces fossil fuel usage, while helping to beautify the campus. The goal is for the site to be converted from meadow/ lawn to forest as the trees mature. Come on out and have fun!
Who is participating: Dr. Eric Wiseman and the Urban Forestry Club will lead student groups planting the trees. You can join up with your friends to plant trees under the direction of the Forestry Club leaders.
How can I help and what should I bring? Come to plant. Bring proper shoes for planting and gardening gloves if desired. All other tools will be provided. For more information, contact Matt Gart at 540-231-4186 or gartm@vt.edu.
